Buliisa county MP Steven Mukitale Birahwa bids for 2026 presidential elections.

The Buliisa county member of parliament Steven Mukitale  Birahwa  who is also the chairperson for Bunyoro  Parliamentary caucus has  declared  his presidential  bid for 2026 . He made the statement while addressing  journalists in Masindi town at Kolping Hotel.

Mukitale a Mugungu  by tribe serving his 3rd term in parliament representing the people Buliisa county on an independent  ticket  told journalists  that since Uganda was declared as a republic  in 1960’s no single (” Munyoro candidate”)  from Bunyoro region has ever shown interest for the presidential  seat yet other regions have on several times field candidates for presidency  such as Buganda, Acholi ,Lango, Busoga  among others.

He says the regions which is currently rich with oil and redound with  abundance of natural resource has never had  a president , a vice president , prime minister and a speaker of parliament  saying that by hook or crook Bunyoro will have a presidential candidate on the ballot paper in  2026  general elections if we are to have a transformed region.

Muktale says  if  Banyoro are well positioned can field a candidate for presidency   and win the election , calling upon leaders and people in the region to unite and work hard for development  and eradicate poverty.
