Hoima City: Ancient cities vs 21 century Sustainable Cities.

Hoima Municipality (Oil City) viewed in an aerial view

Today cities like Singapore, Copenhagen, Shijiazhuang Forest City extra have opted for sustainable cities.

Sustainable cities, urban sustainability, or eco-city (also “ecocity”) is a city designed with consideration for social, economic, environmental impact, and resilient habitat for existing populations, without compromising the ability of future generations to experience the same. (Wiki).

But here in Uganda we still think the future will favour us..No!!! when we are preparing for the oil activities then environmentalists should tripple in numbers, the budget for the oil City as far as environment conservation and creation of green covers should tripple too.

China’s Shijiazhuang Forest City

The environment has not been thought about, I have heard no oil company partnering with individual, government or a group of land owners to setup a forest/ or plant trees in large sums that would curb the chlorophyll carbons, though modern methods of refining oil are said to be thought about but still a small amount of carbon dioxide would be emitted.

If you haven’t taken an ariel view of Hoima city, perhaps you are safe for the meantime but trust me the grand kids have questions for you and your generation. The world is scared of global warming, Uganda and Hoima specifically think they are from a different planet, again I say no!!.

We can not continue like this, we need to encourage atleast every building in town to Gazette space for town trees one or two and a green cover. For a building plan to be approved by authorities it should be a requirement too.
