Musicians from Masindi under their umbrella Masindi musician association (MAMA) have vowed to defect NRM to the opposition parties ahead of the 2021 general elections if their demands are not met by NRM.
The musicians’ president Patrick Abitegeka also known as Easy P told a press conference on monday in Masindi town that musicians from Masindi they have decided to cross to opposition since the NRM government they have supported for many years has failed to help them as musicians.
He adds that during COVID-19 government did not help them at all yet they were also among the people who were affected by the pandemic saying they have given NRM leaders 14 days to have responded to their demand or else they defect to people power or FDC.
He says Barugaha Balaam a promoter for musicians and also close to president Museven has promoted many musicians from other regions neglecting artists from Masindi where he is born. He further asks him to also lead Masindi musicians to the president before they defect.
Tusiime Fahad aka Fontez says they have always been neglected by the ruling government and they are always been used during the elections no single support they have received from NRM leaders adding that its high time they supported opposition which can listen to their problems.
Isingoma Julius aka OCtobas pro the producer and other musicians say that musicians from Masindi they are well organized but they have never received any thing from the government they have been supporting yet artists from other regions they have been supported.
When contacted for a comment the music promoter Barugahara Balaam says he is a mere music promoter and he cannot make choice for musicians on the candidate to support adding if they see the opposition can address there challenges they are free to defect.
He advised artistes in Masindi to talk to the leaders of masindi to address their challenges not to balaam since he does not hold any political office in this country .
