A section of youth from Miirya Sub County in Masindi district under their umbrella organisation Agri- planet Uganda have started promoting agriculture through music.
The youth under their organisation have started recruiting talented musicians from Bunyoro who will be playing music inspiring people to embrace agriculture. “We now need to change the trend by promoting Agriculture through music and I am sure we are going to t achieve it”, Explained Cleophs Alinaitwe the proprietor Agri- planet Uganda
Agri- planet Uganda a social enterprise organisation is a youth based platform which focuses on imparting agricultural skills among the youth in Masindi district. The organisation owns over five acres of banana and it also does poultry with over 500 birds.
They say their dream is to become a farmers’ resource centre and currently they are producing 10 trays per day and 15 bunches of banana per week.
Alinaitwe, says that they formed the organisation with the aim of inspiring the young generation to admire agriculture by giving them different skills and also lobbying for markets.
“Many musicians have played songs promoting other sectors but agriculture has never been thought of something we need to change.
“That is why we have brought in the element of Agri-Edutainment into our programmes to inspire the young generation and the entire population to enjoy agriculture.
“We have so far recruited four musicians and they have already released one song which is inspiring the young generation to enjoy agriculture. So far more three songs promoting agriculture are in pipeline when they come out they will be circulated on different platforms”, explained Alinaitwe.
“I call upon musicians in Bunyoro sub region to refocus their music on sectors which will benefit them like agriculture”, Alinatwe appealed.
Alinaitwe added that the organisation which started in 2018 also organizes farm days every year where farmers are given agricultural and poultry skills.
Ignitious Ahumuza, also one of the proprietors says that there vision is to transform Africa’s agricultural sector as an abler of rural economies.
He added that they are in the process of facilitating the formation of the Albertine poultry association and the Albertine banana farmers’ association through which they will be reaching farmers in the region whenever they need to give them extension skills.
“We could have completed this exercise only that we were antagonized by the Coronavirus pandemic. I am calling upon farmer organisation in Masindi and the entire region to join us such that we can make agriculture admirable by attaining the necessary skills”, said Ahumuza.
Joseph Kirya, Aka Badman Snipper, noted that after understanding the value of agriculture, is now dedicated to playing music which will inspire someone to use agriculture as a life changer. “I am dedicated to paying music which will encourage farmers enjoy agriculture in Bunyoro sub region”, explained Kirya.
Another musician who was brought on board, Gerald Twesige aka Lovens official music is the best way of disseminating agriculture information adding that they are going to make sure that they do it perfectly such that farmers can enjoy.
