Valuables valued in millions of shillings were stolen when thieves broke into CLUSA, a non-governmental organization and Masindi district agricultural officer’s offices in Masindi town.
The incident happened on Tuesday night after the unidentified thieves gained access into the two offices separated by a door after breaking the wire mesh in their ventilators and later removed metal bars from the window to CLUSA’s office to carry out the items from the offices.
The two offices share a building with Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Regional prisons commander, UPDF Field Artillery public relations among other government offices and is located next to the District Internal Security Officer’s office.
Masindi district agricultural officer Job Byaruhanga told our reporter that he could not tell the items that were taken from the office by the thieves since he could not access office before police could visit the scene but confirmed a brand new desktop computer had been taken by the thieves.
Bosco Otulo, CLUSA’s communications manager says that a printer worth over 3 million shillings, motorcycle riding gear are among the items that were taken from CLUSA office by the thieves who also siphoned fuel from the motorcycles that were in the office. Otulo added that the matter had been reported to police.
The district police commander Samuel Odongo confirmed the reports when contacted revealing that police had started investigations aimed at recovering the stolen items and arrest the thieves.Last night’s incident is not the first to happen at the block.
Our reporter has learnt that last week thieves broke into the office of Masindi Legal Aid Clinic located on the same block where they reportedly took unspecified items.
These came about two years ago when thieves broke into the office of the Resident District Commissioner where they took a computer and other items.
This was followed by the shooting and killing of Major Erasmus Tinkamalire who was the zonal UPDF pensions officer based in Masindi by a prison warder who was guarding the regional prions offices after reportedly mistaking him for a criminal.
We could not get a comment from the Resident District Commissioner, Godfrey Nyakahuma on the matter as he could not be reached at the time of filing this story.
